Due to a sport event, between 1–5 June 2026 there are road closures in the area. HKW is fully accessible via public transport—S-Bahn (Hauptbahnhof) and U-Bahn (Bundestag)—and via bike or on foot.
The lift between levels 1, 2 and 3 of HKW is currently out of service. People who use mobility aids, wish to avoid steps, or are pushing prams have the following access options:
The lowest level of the building, level 1(Angie Stardust Foyer, Bessie Head Foyer, Magnus Hirschfeld Bar, Lili Elbe Garden, Weltwirtschaft Restaurant) is accessible exclusively from the Spree side (Bettina-von-Arnim-Ufer, via the Sharmila Rege Entrance, next to the Weltwirtschaft Restaurant).
Level 1 is where one of the two welcome desks and one of the two food stands are situated. This is where the event welcome, six of the discussion panels, and the comedy show afterwards take place.
The middle level of the building, level 2 (Sylvia Wynter Foyer) is accessible exclusively from the Tiergarten side (John-Foster-Dulles-Allee, via the Itō Noe Entrance and the Ika Hügel-Marshall Entrance).
Level 2 houses is where one of the two welcome desks and, in front of the building, one of the two food stands are situated.
The upper level of the building, level 3 (Gunta Stölzl Foyer), is accessible via the ramps on the east and west sides (Nawal El Saadawi Entrance and Hedwig Dohm Entrance). Six of the discussion panels take place on Level 3.
Before your visit, you can call 030 39 787 175 for information on access to the building. During the event, on-site assistance will be available to help you move from one level to another.
We apologize for any inconvenience.

With their community platform KARAKAYA TALKS, Esra Karakaya and Djenna Wehenpohl have for years been addressing perspectives underrepresented in the media, as well as offering a power-critical analysis and opening up traditionally constructed spaces of discourse. In Ask Me About, they place a thematic focus on media narratives: the questions of how social reality is spoken about, who shapes these narratives, and which perspectives become visible—or remain invisible—within them.
Through a spatial-social intervention, interstitial spaces in HKW become decentralized forums for conversation: foyers and passageways throughout the building are transformed into cozy settings. In several small groups, participants engage in conversation with people who possess situated, experience-based knowledge and take on temporary speaking roles—including journalists, artists, community organizers, and actors with institutional responsibility. This creates spaces for informal exchange where participants can speak openly and authentically and share personal experiences.
