The space between people is political: shaped by media narratives, institutional codes, historical inequalities, and global power dynamics. This space lies at the heart of Relational Work, Relational Power, a programme taking place in 2026 as part of heimaten curated by Esra Karakaya and Djenna Wehenpohl. Both are part of the community-based media platform KARAKAYA TALKS, which publishes news from a power-critical perspective.
For HKW, Karakaya and Wehenpohl develop open dialogic formats for collective exchange, characterized by hospitality, informality, and non-hierarchical knowledge sharing. Through this, Relational Work, Relational Power makes tangible how power relations are negotiated in these interstitial spaces—and how one can influence the ways in which people encounter, listen to, disagree with, and understand one another.
