Christiana Bukalo is the founder and managing director of Statefree, the first NGO in Germany to focus on statelessness in its entirety. Through community building, political innovation and effective campaigns, Statefree creates visibility for this often-overlooked issue. The organisation was actively involved in the reform of the German Citizenship Act and is currently working on solutions for the digitalisation of migration administration. For her commitment, Bukalo received the Creative Bureaucracy Award in 2024, followed by the emotion Award in the Social Values category and the Peter Raue Prize for Statefree’s work in 2025. Bukalo lives and works in Munich.
