AI-generated texts, images, and presentations have been part of everyday school life since AI software such as ChatGPT became freely accessible. Instead of imposing bans that are almost impossible to enforce, teachers require new didactic approaches and explorative teaching concepts. How can these technologies be used in an educationally meaningful and critically reflective way? How can pupils be empowered in their use of AI without being turned into unreflected users or data suppliers?
The training provides practical and critical insights into the use of AI in the context of schools. Both the possibilites—such as participatory forms of learning and inclusive learning—and the risks are discussed: that is, misuse of data, lack of transparency of algorithms, reproduction of discriminatory patterns, and the spread of disinformation and anti-democratic narratives.
Participants in the training programme gain an insight into various AI tools and develop questions and formats for constructive, critical, and reflective use.
At first, it is explained how AI systems work, what conditions characterize them, and what social consequences they have. This is followed by learning from AI: AI behaviour and AI-generated products are analyzed in order to promote critical thinking and media skills. Finally, practical applications of AI services, tools and data in specialised lessons are tested.
As a result of the training, participants take home concrete teaching ideas that can easily be integrated into everyday school life.
The training is recognized as an official teacher training in the state of Berlin.
