In this exhibition tour, the team of Scientific, Digital, and Media Practices introduces the historical and political contexts of the current exhibition Tirailleurs: Trials and Tribulations. From Cannon Fodder to Avant-Garde—The Forgotten Soldiers Who Freed Europe. Connecting the exhibition to the weekend programme of AI (Ancestral Immediacies): Digital Twins and Data Doppelgängers, the tour takes the idea of doubling and the rigidity of datafied memories as lenses through which digital infrastructures intersect with the exhibition’s concerns. Special attention is given to the questions posed by non-digital twins, as monuments, personas, and communities come into focus through collective remembrance, personal stories, and absent presences. The tour concludes with an introduction to Wùn Ná Kre, a new commission by Zas Ieluhee. The work brings digital architectures into dialogue with the patterns, topologies, and philosophical groundings of Serer mathematics, as carried through the practices of West African Tirailleurs.
