This year the pavilion series Shaped to the Measure of the People’s Songs continues in the frame of heimaten with the outdoor summer pavilion designed by Mae-ling Lokko and Gustavo Crembil.
The Ileum pavilion explores pluriversal roles of architecture in confronting its historical indifference to soil ecosystems. Ileum draws upon Berlin’s Großes Tropenhaus (a large tropical greenhouse, located in the Botanischer Garten in Dahlem), as a reference site for repair of both soil ecosystems and contemporary building cultures.
The opening event includes a conversation with Mae-Ling Lokko, Gustavo Crembil, and Cosmin Costinaș (Senior Curator, Exhibition Practices), moderated by Emilienne Fernande Bodo (Curatorial Assistant, Architectural and Spatial Practices). Together they reflect on the relationship between textile and architecture material life cycles, as well as symbols and spaces of historic extraction and how their meaning and power might be reconstituted.
