What happens when we gather? At a time when histories, identities, and lived experiences continue to be erased, silenced, or misrepresented, the salon offers a space of refuge: a place to listen, remember, imagine, and speak together. Inspired by the legacy of the Nardal sisters and their influential Parisian salon, this panel asks how contemporary forms of the salon can foster community, solidarity, and in turn, liberation. How do we transform individual voices into a collective one? How does storytelling become a form of gathering, and poetry a tool of resistance? What is at stake when we make space for one another?
The conversation brings together three guests whose practices are rooted in collective life, cultural memory, and the power of expression. Bisrat Negassi, Lisa Anderson, and Jumoke Adeyanju reflect on the work and significance of their spaces and consider how cultural initiatives can nurture belonging and create meaningful platforms for exchange. Hosted by community organizer and political consultant Miriam Siré Camara, the conversation invites visitors to listen closely and imagine the possibilities that emerge when a collective voice is formed.
