On the occasion of The Nardal Salon, Re-enactments and Re-enchantments, Dakar-based fashion designer NuNu transforms the Angie Stardust Foyer, Magnus Hirschfeld Bar, and Sylvia Wynter Foyer into an environment that recalls the intimacy of a salon. Working primarily with indigo, a colour deeply connected to West African histories, craftsmanship, and movement, NuNu draws on it as a strong signifier that represents more than pigment or dyed textile. It carries the memories of many journeys—of materials and people that have travelled across the Atlantic Ocean to foreign lands and knowledge that has been passed on across generations. Indigo also evokes notions of healing and cleansing—its deep blue tones suggest water, night, and renewal, while the processes of dyeing, soaking, folding, and transforming fabric become gestures of care and restoration. For the duration of the weekend, the salon unfolds as a landscape shaped by layered fabrics, suspended garments, and woven surfaces, inviting visitors to convene, slow down, and enter a space of contemplation.
