In this workshop, traces of socialist architecture are explored through city-walks in the Berlin districts of Hellersdorf, Marzahn, and Lichtenberg, where many GDR housing complexes and murals are located. The workshop particularly invites applications from cultural practitioners with a migrant biography who have lived in those districts, and have an interest in telling stories about the communitarian use of these buildings, public spaces, and murals or their knowledge related to these GDR neighbourhoods. In each place, the workshop is co-hosted by a group of local experts (Jochen Becker, Elena Kaludova, Margarete Kiss, Marc Pospiech, Sung Tieu, among others) who further contextualize these stories via their own research and practice.
