Pélagie Gbaguidi
Pélagie Gbaguidi defines herself as a contemporary griot. In the poetic sense, the ‘griot’ challenges the individual in his or her journey through life as it absorbs the words of the elders, reshapes them like a ball of fat, and deposits them in the belly of the passerby, along with the ingredients of his time. Her work is an anthology of signs and traces linked to collective trauma. Recent exhibitions include: Excavation and Knowledge, The Fralin Museum of Art, Charlottesville, 2025; Congoville, Middelheimmuseum, Antwerp, 2021; alongside participations in the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, 2025. Gbaguidi lives and works in Brussels.
