Elke Hartmann
Elke Hartmann is a researcher at the Chair of Russian and Asian Studies of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich and, from April 2019, will be a visiting professor of Turkish Studies at the University of Hamburg. She obtained her PhD in Islamic Studies from Freie Universität Berlin with a thesis on Ottoman military conscription. She submitted her postdoctoral thesis on the lives and personal accounts of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire to the Catholic University of Budapest. In 2010, together with Vahé Tachjian, she founded the Houshamadyan project, which is dedicated to reconstructing the everyday life and culture of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
