Being a reference for many musical styles, Brazilian melodies carry the identity, legacy, and culture of their communities and portray a great diversity of narratives in different sociopolitical contexts.

The workshop Baile Funk beyond the charts. A creative lesson traces relevant movements in the history of Brazilian popular music such as samba and forró, and shows how these styles established the ground for recent music genres such as baile funk a, piseiro, and trap. The workshop shows how beyond the mainstream, baile funk rhythms, methods and philosophies change from city to city in Brazil. The workshop also addresses the role of women and young people among the Afro-Brazilian diasporic communities.

In this workshop format, DJ Mu540 and singer Deize Tigrona present to the public how the creation process happens and the difference between each one of these musical styles.

The workshop is in collaboration with Psicotrópicos Festival.
