Entrainment is a performative environment that unveils the phenomenon of spontaneous cardiac synchronization, whereby heart cells or tissues synchronize without external pacing or direct electrical coupling. It unfolds as an audio biofeedback experience, triggering performers into a coordinated heart rhythm state in response to the active, real-time listening of their own simultaneous heartbeats. Composed live and in a participatory manner with the pulses of the participants, it oscillates between chaotic moments of rhythmic dissonance and episodes of captivating unison. The project explores the interconnection between our physiology and its environment through a unique experience of human and human-machine connection. Reformulating the dominant ideals of intelligence to include emotional and embodied aspects, the performance highlights the heart’s role as a key transmitter and mediator of energetic interactions while also addressing —and inviting the audience to feel—our inherent underlying unity.
