At the heart of Sound Base Berlin are the multitude of scenes and communities that shape the musical landscape in Berlin, often through queer, migrant, and diasporic perspectives. Each evening of the series combines live performances with conversations and DJ sets. The performances serve as a starting point for gaining insights into the artistic development and working methods of those involved. Through these exchanges, music is understood both as an aesthetic form and a social practice through which political attitudes, questions of belonging, and coexistence are negotiated.
Concert: Duos Duet & Roshanak Rafani
Duos Duet was formed in Tehran in 2017 by classically trained musicians Golsana Shenasaei and Niki Yaghmaee. Alongside their work as part of classical and contemporary music ensembles for c, they created a platform for their own compositional experiments and improvisation. In addition to Shenasaei’s cello and Yaghmaee’s violin and viola, their work incorporates loops and electronic sound processing, without losing their connection to classical music and Iranian influences. In their concert performances and through interdisciplinary projects, Duos Duet explore themes such as memory, identity, and belonging. For Sound Base Berlin, Shenasaei and Yaghmaee collaborate with percussionist Roshanak Rafani, who moves between traditional Iranian music, classical practice, and contemporary formats. In doing so, Rafani blends diverse influences into a musical language that is as multifaceted as it is distinctive.
Conversation with Anahita Sadighi, Yalda Yazdani, and Yalda Zamani
Moderated by Aida Baghernejad, in English
