During festival days, visitors can enjoy watching this short feature documentary on the reggae scene in Hyderabad, which will be shown as a continuously looping video installation in the Lydie Dooh Bunya Space.
As the tagline indicates, Sound System Sanskriti celebrates the ‘Roots & Dub Revolution Outta di Colourful Heartikal City call Hyderabad’. The film tells the story of DJ, selector, radio host, and son of a priest who goes by the name Dakta Dub, as he attempts to bring together people from different backgrounds in the city of Hyderabad. It is there that he and his crew of associates face myriad hurdles with a smile as they attempt to build the city’s first spiritual sound system.
As Dakta Dub digs into Indian and Jamaican connections in reggae music culture, he also delves into his own roots and consciousness. His hope is to initiate a sonic revolution in which roots, reggae, dub, dance, and meditation resonate with the city’s youth.
