How does ableism shape our environment, as well as the products and people around us? What is ableism (in design), and why do ableist products exist? What potential do the perspectives of people with disabilities hold for moving toward non-ableist design? In this workshop, participants reflect on their surroundings and the objects and products within them in terms of ableism. Djamal Elangui Okoko’s text 'ableist capitalism and design' serves as the basis for this reflection. The text explores ableist relationships between products, design practice, and everyday life as a person with a disability, and economic dynamics.

Please bring a product, a skill, or an activity that we can discuss during the workshop.
