Throughout the two days of convening, Soñ Gweha aka SOÑXSEED invites the audience to embrace The Core, a regenerative unifying device unfolded into four islands of nine giant purple velvet cushion-sculptures for people to sit, lay, and mingle. More than just a place to rest, The Core is a visionary project questioning the non-violence and sustainability of human lives as well as the existence of care spaces within communities of affinities and intimacies. Its structure is inspired by the seed of the Cameroonian safou plum which became a symbol of resistance for migrant Cameroonian women who make a living in France by importing and selling it on various African markets. The work is conceived in the context of restorative justice workshops, where visitors can rest, regenerate, exchange, organize themselves, and experience care and pleasure during naps, workshops, movie nights, discussions, performances, sonic listening sessions, or parties and celebrations. Based on the principle that one practices love in it, the installation encourages rest and meditation—particularly for tired Black and Brown people/QTBIPOCs.
SOÑXSEED’s work traverses utopian, erotic, and spiritual imaginaries, unfolding through music and analog DJing, poetry, video, performance, ceramic, installation, and collective practices. Rooted in Cameroonian and Afro-diasporic heritage, Afrofeminist struggles, science fiction, and the rich traditions of Black music—from Gospel and Soul to Disco-House, Makossa, and Assiko—their work explores intimacy, love, joy, and vitality from a Black, Queer, and Afrofuturist perspective. Through a designed sonic gesture titled THE SOURCE (A Quiet Storm Rising), SOÑXSEED calls for tenderness, love, and care for the people who will take part in the convening. THE SOURCE is imagined as a journey of self-recognition and loving emotions through resting, grooving, vibing, and sweating on the dancefloor.
