During the 1980s and 90s, young British Asians skipped school to dance in communal spaces called daytimers. Those spaces played music like bangra, garage, and jungle, and encouraged people to come together and create connections, giving them the possibility to express themselves. Under the same name, the Daytimers collective was born in the midst of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown and is now recognized as a group of artists that represent the UK’s South Asian diaspora and beyond. They are continuously shaking the cultural scene through events, streams, radio shows, raves, fundraising, and festivals, keeping the original spirit of the daytimers alive.

For Pluri-Rhythm Festival, Daytimers will showcase a b2b between DJ Ritu and Chandé. DJ Ritu is a radio host and founder of the legendary Outcaste Records label which was a key influence upon the collective. Nirav aka Chandé is a DJ, radio host, and podcaster. He has been a Daytimers crew member since its inception and has helped to represent the collective in the north of England. Coming from two different generations, both artists perform and play with similar passions invoked in the original daytimer dance spaces.
