Musical practices and polyrhythms from African origins were preserved in South America and the Caribbean through Afro-diasporic religions like Candomblé and Santería. Those influences can be found in genres like samba, bossa nova, plena, bomba, descarga, guagancó. Amuleto Manuela and Anacaona will perform and be in discussion within and about the context of these sonic legacies. Amuleto Manuela is a sound artist, researcher, and DJ, and Anacaona is a vinyl selector. Both will be talking through a journey of polyrhythms and personal narratives from the Afro-diaspora of Brazil, Cuba, and Haiti.
