Continuing a conversation begun at the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, the collective Vilanismo and and artist Akinbode Akinbiyi come together again to consider photography through the prism of Black light. Moving between image, memory, territory, and lived experience, they reflect on photography as a space of encounter, resistance, and collective affirmation. The conversation unfolds in the Sylvia Wynter Foyer, within Akinbiyi’s photographic installation originally commissioned for the 36th Bienal de São Paulo in 2025. The conversation is moderated by curator and writer Billy Fowo of SAVVY Contemporary. An exhibition of Vilanismo’s work takes place at SAVVY Contemporary between 11 September and 22 November 2026.
