Among other traditional musical instruments, the Ongoma drum of the Aawambo people of northern Namibia and southern Angola was feared by colonizers for its rumoured power to embody spirits and ability to transcend realms of time and space. Less than a concert and more of a festivity, this activation centres around the presence of the drum, intertwining it with Aino Moongo’s personal stories, all guided by the deep and low frequencies emanating from these drums that cut across past, present, and future dimensions.
The drum(s) are kindly provided by MARKK Museum am Rothenbaum.
