Sukini, known in hip hop for many years as Sookee, makes music for kids that adults are welcome to listen to as well. After nearly two decades as a queer feminist rapper, Sukini is once again inviting listeners to grow alongside with her music and, at the same time, with the topics and discussions that she explores in her lyrics—sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly. Politically sustainable: music that takes time and gives time.
Honest, direct, immediate: that’s how Sukini experiences those who attend her concerts, especially younger attendees. Her interaction with her audience is similarly direct. Instead of rapidly produced and inauthentic music created for a certain market, Sukini chooses a different path. Prioritizing artistic over commercial decisions, she deals with themes affecting her own life as well as those stemming from her engagement with contemporary issues.
As usual, the Kid’s Disco invites children of all ages and their families to experience the magic of music, feel the rhythm, and have lots of fun together!
