Riko Sugama

Riko Sugama is a Ryukyuan dancer, singer, and sanshin performer. Born into a traditional Ryukyuan dance dojo and trained from early childhood, she developed a practice grounded in inherited tradition while continually exploring new creative possibilities. Holding teaching licenses in both Ryukyuan dance and uta-sanshin (singing and sanshin performance), she bridges traditional knowledge with evolving forms of expression. Since relocating to Berlin, she has developed solo stage works combining movement, voice, and ritual presence. In this project, she contributes artistic direction and performance rooted in Okinawan cultural memory and embodied knowledge of non-violence. Sugama is based in Berlin.
