Nrithya Pillai

Nrithya Pillai is a dancer, singer, writer, social activist, speaker, and dance instructor . Following the legacy of a long list of performing artists, she consciously preserves the repertoire and the teaching and choreographic practices of her ancestors. She represents a new kind of artistic and intellectual engagement with the troubled history of Bharatanatyam dance style. Pillai advocates for reparative and reconciliatory critical engagement with Bharatanatyam which focuses on restoring credit and acknowledgment to its original hereditary practitioners. Pillai lives and works in Chennai, India.
