Njabulo Phungula

Njabulo Phungula is a composer. His music documents the exploration of convoluted forms, inspired by the concepts of time, memory, gesture, and the creative process itself. His works have been performed in South Africa, Germany, the US, and the UK by ensembles such as ensemble recherche, Kompass Ensemble, and the JACK Quartet. Phungula has received commissions and grants from several institutions and his works have been featured at the Unyazi Electronic Music Festival, Cape Town, and at the SASRIM Composers’ Meeting, South Africa; Deep Time, Edinburgh; and ISCM World New Music Days. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, where he studied composition. Phungula lives and works in Durban.
