Mely Kiyak is an author and writes books, theatre texts, and columns. Her series ‘Meine Testamente’ (Republik magazine) is currently being published in Switzerland and ‘Gute Momente’ (Zeit Online) in Germany. Her most recent publications are Werden sie uns mit FlixBus deportieren? (2022) and Frausein (2020) , both published by C. Hanser Verlag Munich. Kiyak has received numerous awards for her work, including the Kurt Tucholsky Prize and the Theodor Wolff Prize. She studied prose and drama at the German Literature Institute Leipzig and later took on a guest professorship teaching Introduction to Column Writing. She has written over ten books, including a gardening book about her time as a gardener at Fulda Abbey with the Benedictine nuns and a diary chronicling her time as a reporter during the Gezip protests in Istanbul. Kiyak strictly rejects her involvement or participation in social networks. She has lived and worked mainly on an island on the Baltic Sea for almost fifteen years.
