Maree Sheehan
Maree Sheehan (1969, Leeston) tribal affiliations Ngāti Maniapoto, Waikato, Ngāti Tuwharetoa is a sound artist, composer, and researcher whose work explores sonic identity, immersive audio, and sound ecology. Her practice incorporates indigenous music practices, sonic machinations and immersive sound. Sheehan is a Senior Research Fellow at Te Manawahoukura, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa, and holds a PhD from Auckland University of Technology. She is the winner of the 2024 Te Kōpūnui Māori Research Award. Recent works include the film Toitū Visual Sovereignty (2025) and the exhibition Ōtairongo, Toi Tū Toi Ora, Auckland, 2022. Sheehan lives and works in Waikato, Aotearoa New Zealand.
