Layla Zami (1985, Paris) is an interdisciplinary scholar and artist working with music, words, sounds, video, and theater. She is Postdoctoral Researcher at Freie Universität Berlin and Adj. Associate Professor at the Pratt Institute, New York. The author of Contemporary PerforMemory: Dancing Through Spacetime, Historical Trauma, and Diaspora in the 21st Century (2020), she also initiated the Sonic Interventions podcast (2023). Zami is rooted in an Afro-Indian-Caribbean and Jewish-German-Russian heritage and blossoms on tour with Oxana Chi Dance & Art. She co-curated symposiums and events including Moving Memory, TU Berlin, 2016; Black Queer Night, Dixon Place, 2018; and Quiet (as) Intervention, SAVVY, 2022.
