Franz Lehmkuhl (1951, Herbrechtingen) completed his studies as a film-maker at the Kassel School of Fine Arts in 1977 with the film Rashidiya, which won an award in Baghdad in 1978. He has filmed political conflicts in the Middle East, among other subjects. In 1980, he founded IKARUS Filmproduktion with Christian Fuchs, which produced numerous films for ZDF, ARD, SR and WDR, including Familie im Boot (1982) and Hermann Röchling oder der Krieg als industrielle Herausforderung (1990). Chilenische Wandmalerei (1977) was funded by the BMI and shown at festivals in Oberhausen, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, and Wunsiedel-Selb. Lehmkuhl lives and works in Bergisch Gladbach.
