Elvira Espejo Ayca

Elvira Espejo Ayca is a well-known Indigenous artist, curator, and researcher. She was born in the Ayllu Qaqachaka (Avaroa Province, Department of Oruro, Bolivia). Her practice is rooted in textiles, oral tradition, and poetry. She is the director of the Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore (MUSEF), La Paz. In 2020 she received the Goethe Medal, an award bestowed by the Federal Republic of Germany, for her work and her commitment to cultural exchange. The significance of her work is founded on a dialogue between practice and the knowledge of Indigenous communities at the intersection with academia, cultural management, and museums.
