Deborah A. Thomas
Deborah A. Thomas is an interdisciplinary scholar, filmmaker, and producer. She is the R. Jean Brownlee Professor of Anthropology and the Director of the Center for Experimental Ethnography at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of prize-winning books, including Political Life in the Wake of the Plantation (2019) and Exceptional Violence (2011) and she co-directed and co-produced the documentary films Four Days in May (2017) and Bad Friday (2011). She is the recipient of several awards including a Guggenheim fellowship and she is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Thomas lives and works in Philadelphia.
