Conceição Evaristo is a writer, poet, and professor. She holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Universidade Federal Fluminense. Her work is characterized by lyrical writing, Black female protagonists and the denunciation of social injustice and racism. In 2023, she founded Casa Escrevivência, a cultural space in Rio de Janeiro dedicated to her concept of  ‘escrevivência’, a term she coined combining escrever [to write] and vivência [life experience], which aims to conceive of writing as resistance and reflection on the experiences of Black people in Brazil.
