Bilawa Ade Respati is a musician and composer, weaving together the Javanese gamelan and algorithmic music composition. In his works, Respati pursues a syncretism of music information retrieval, performing art, the art of Javanese Karawitan, and computer music. His recent projects include the shadow puppet theater Play for the Gods, a Play for No Good(?), Dansmuseet, Stockholm, 2024 and the automaton and visual installation Distant Memories of the Void, Haus der Indonesischen Kulturen, Berlin, 2024. Respati lives and works in Berlin.
