Ananda Devi is considered one of the major contemporary francophone literary voices. She has won numerous literary prizes and her work has been translated in over a dozen languages and is taught in universities around the world, including the United States, UK, France, India, and Poland. The French Republic conferred the title of Officier des Arts et des Lettres upon her and the University of Silesia, Poland, awarded her a Honoris Causa doctorate. In 2023, she was awarded the Prix de la Langue Française de la ville de Brive and the prestigious Neustadt Prize from the United States. Devi lives and works in France and Mauritius.
