Masimba Hwati (1982, Harare, Zimbabwe) holds an MFA from the University of Michigan and is a PhD Candidate at Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien. His recent exhibitions include: Black Skin, White Masks, Galerias Municipais, Lisbon, 2023; Sokunge, Leeds Culture Trust, 2022; Papierkampf Ensemble, Kulturhaus Brotfabrik, Vienna, 2022; I see you, Tiwani Contemporary, Lagos, 2022; States of Becoming, Africa Center, New York, 2022; British Textile Biennial, Lancashire, 2021; Witness, El Espacio 23, Miami, 2020; Face To Face, Montreal Museum of Fine Art; 2018; and the Zimbabwe Pavilion, the 56th Venice Biennale, 2015. His publications include: Sokunge (2021) and der Seeteufel (2022). Hwati lives and works in Vienna and Harare.
