A self-shot video, in which three Viennese teenage girls wearing hijabs dance to the song ‘Losing My Religion’, unexpectedly goes viral. In her film, Kurdwin Ayub explores the contradictions between self-determination and external definitions of identity, cultural belonging, and appropriation, as well as the question of who has the right to define identities in the first place.
