A story of ideological blindness that reflects an aspect of 20th century world history: A Korean, an ardent communist, lives in Japan during the 1970s. To ensure his three sons a radiant future, he sends them to North Korea. To this very day, he swears that this momentous decision was correct. What appears to be a deeply moving parable is, in fact, the real story of the Korean director and her siblings.

Dear Pyongyang won a number of prizes, including the Netpac Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 2006 and the Special Prize of the jury at the Sundance Film Festival.
