WORLDTRONICS 2013 - Electronica Surprise, Diamond Version, Photo: Promo

In recent years, Egypt’s music scene has been marked by new alliances, stylistic turns, and underground structures that – like the country’s political developments – are almost impossible to gain a clear picture of. Mahmoud Refat, musician and founder of the Cairo label 100Copies, will bring light into the darkness:

Bikya loops heavy drumbeats into darkly playful electronic soundscapes. Wetrobots <3 Bosaina exhibit their version of electroclash with sullen sawtooth bass, pulsing bass drums, and 16-bit sound-shrapnel. Diamond Version (Alva Noto and Byetone) are admired worldwide for its post-techno radicalism. This year, they first crossed paths with Wetrobots and Bikya. Neobyrd’s sound is inspired by pop pioneers like Depeche Mode and Fatboy Slim, as well as glamorous entertainers such as Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury.

22.00-22.40h Bikya
22.40-23.30h Neobyrd
23.30-00.00h Diamond Version
00.00-01.00h Wetrobots <3 Bosaina
