Jorge Sanjinés' feature film tells the story of an Aymara coffin-maker named Sebastián Mamani, who returns to the Bolivian highlands after living for many years in La Paz. During the long journey, he reminisces about his hapless life in the city, his failed attempt to gain a foothold in the predominantly Spanish culture and his betrayal of the Aymara community, called the "Secret Nation", which since time immemorial, has evaded the Spanish conquerors and their descendants.
