Cool Jazz encounters Mali-Blues - Jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd and Kora-player Mamadou Diabaté encounter one another in improvisation.

This co-operative project was inspired by the special affinity between the traditional music of Mali and American Blues/Jazz, and provides impressive proof of the artistic dynamics of the Black Atlantic. Not only that, when Free-Jazz Legend Roswell Rudd and Kora virtuoso Mahamadou Diabaté join forces, they show just how masterfully they can improvise. Critics have heaped praise on the CD that came out of Roswell Rudd’s first jam sessions in Mali and produced such a first-class musical exchange. The Times Herald Record described MALIcool as an album of extraordinary beauty … as music that crosses so many boundaries that you don’t have to be a Jazz or World Music fan to appreciated its quality. You only have to like good music.
