Translating Acts

Exhibition

Commissioned works and premières: the performance programme presents the results of international encounters. Using body language and choreography, dancers and choreographers from Berlin, China, Japan and India engage in a dialogue on the concept of beauty.

The performance programme examines the extent to which beauty is a cultural category, how it is conveyed across cultures and how it becomes a category only when it assumes the form of the Other. The exchange programme centres on the choreographers and prominent dancers Akira Kasai (Japan), Jin Xing (Shanghai), Yumiko Yoshioka (Japan, Germany) and Padmini Chettur (India), as well as Susanne Linke, Sasha Waltz, Dieter Baumann and Jutta Hell. The project combines a workshop, production, premières and aesthetic reflections.
