Lee Youn Taek

Lee Youn-taek

Artistic director of The National Drama Company of Korea (NDCK). Entered Seoul Theatre School in 1972, and worked as a reporter at Busan Ilbo for seven years. In 1986, he founded Yeon-Hee Street Theatre Troupe. He is a poet, playwright, theatre director, and film director. He is now the Artistic Director of Yeon-Hee Street Theatre Troupe and the National Drama Company of Korea. He also teaches at Sung-Gyun-Kwan University.

He has won several awards for the scripts he wrote, and the performances he directed. Famous for among Koreans for directing decent productions. His productions are aimed not only to be enjoyable, but also to contain profound themes of life and death. The performances of Yeon-Hee Street Theatre Troupe are also well-known internationally. San-Sit-Gim was invited to Tokyo Alice Theatre Festival in 1990. Mother was invited to Russia in 1995, Ba-Bo-Gak-Si to Japan Alis Festival in 1990 and 1991. Ogu, which was made into a film last year, was invited to 1991 Essen Festival in Germany and 1990 Tokyo International Theatre Festival. Hamlet was invited to ASSITEJ Congress in 1996, and TOGA Spring Art Festival in 2000. In 2002, A Learned Man, Cho Nam-Myung was invited to BeSeTo Festival held in Beijing, China. The Maids was selected as the 7 Best Korean Plays of the Year in 2002. Mr. Lee also taught actors at the acting workshop of Berlin Theatre Festival in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
