Tracking the speeds of the individuals in the bar shows how they accelerated when they heard shots fired in the kiosk next door.

The analysis by Forensic Architecture and Forensis shows that by the time the perpetrator enters the bar, all five would have been near to the emergency exit, and able to escape – if the emergency exit had been open, and they had not expected it to be locked.

The investigation by Forensic Architecture and Forensis began with a digital reconstruction of the perpetrator’s house.

The volume of the shots, contrasted against background noise, gives this map, which Forensic Architecture and Forensis call the ‘audibility field’. The audibility field describes whether, and where, the shots would have been audible against the background noise levels, which in the neighbourhood around the perpetrator’s house were very quiet – around 25dB.

When the police helicopter closed to within 600m of the perpetrator’s house, it would begin to affect the audibility of the shots, according to acoustic engineers at Anderson Acoustics. The variable audibility field reflects this, and could be used to interrogate the claims of the police.
