Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn, The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon (2022), 58' 

For the opening weekend of the Berlin edition of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW), Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn presents his film The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon (2022), alongside a short excerpt from Amongst the Disquiet (2024), which was shown at the Bienal in São Paulo. The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon draws on the stories of the people of Quảng Trị, in Vietnam’s central region—one of the most heavily bombed areas in the history of modern warfare. The work considers material memory and its potential for transformation, asking whether objects marked by violence can become instruments of healing, allowing suppressed histories and unburied memories to be heard. 

In conversation with curators Paz Guevara and Alya Sebti, Tuấn Andrew Nguyễn discusses his filmic practice, deeply rooted in memory and storytelling, as well as his contributions to both the 36th Bienal de São Paulo and the exhibition Tirailleurs: Trials and Tribulations. From Cannon Fodder to Avant-Garde—The Forgotten Soldiers Who Freed Europe, presented at HKW earlier this year.
