Rita Sugama is a Ryukyuan dancer. She has studied Ryukyuan dance, developing a precise and refined performance style, particularly in onna-odori (female dance repertoire). Her practice focuses on the careful transmission of classical Ryukyuan dance techniques and aesthetics. In addition she has appeared as a performer and model in cultural photography projects, advertising, and television commercials. Sugama also plays an important role in teaching at her family’s Ryukyuan dance dojo, where she supports the training of younger generations. In this project, she contributes dance performance and supports the artistic development of the program. Sugama is based in Okinawa, Japan.
