Laila Hida is an artist and cultural practitioner whose work focuses on image and photography, exploring their use as archival material and as triggers for fiction. Her recent project, Le Voyage du Phoenix, examines photography, literature, and cinema as tools to distil the 20th century’s regime of desire. She founded LE 18, a multidisciplinary cultural space and artist residency in the medina of Marrakech. The project reflects her commitment to exploring how environments shape artistic production, mediation, and research. Hida has curated numerous programmes internationally, including the LE 18 collective project at documenta15 and the Moroccan stopovers of the Art Explora Festival in Marseille. She is also the founder of Dabaphoto, an annual programme dedicated to photography and image-making in Morocco. Hida lives in Marrakech.
