Izza Edery-Génini left her native Morocco in 1960 and moved to Paris with her parents. There, she studied literature at the Sorbonne Université, as well as Oriental languages. She founded the production company SOGEAV (now OHRA), which initially managed the Club 70 whilst also specialising in the distribution of Moroccan and African films. Her first film production, Trances by Ahmed El Maanouni, was selected for the opening of the World Cinema Foundation. For 40 years, she has been producing documentary films on Morocco’s musical and intangible cultural heritage. Her extensive collection has received widespread international acclaim and has been honoured with numerous awards.
