Slavenka Drakulić is a Croatian author, resident of Sweden. She has written numerous articles as well as a trilogy on the Balkan wars: Balkan Express, As If I Am Not There and They Would Never Hurt a Fly. The latter won the Leipzig Book Award for European Understanding.

Peter Maass is an American writer. His first book, Love Thy Neighbor: A Story of War, chronicled his experiences covering the conflict in Bosnia in the 1990s. He has also written about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan for The New York Times Magazine and The New Yorker. His latest work examines the nexus between war and surveillance.

Albrecht Koschorke is Professor of Modern German Literature and Literary Studies at the University of Konstanz. He established the research center Cultural Theory of the Political Imaginary and is the spokesperson of the graduate program The Problem of the Real in Modern Culture. His research interests include narrative theory.
