Brazil 2012, 77 min, English subtitles

Brazil during the Cold War: President João Goulart is under surveillance by the US until his removal by military coup in 1964. The twenty-one-year military dictatorship that followed was one of the longest in South American history. White House tapes of John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson and CIA recordings reveal how the US planned the overthrow of the government. Director Camilo Tavares is the son of one of the period’s political prisoners, who was released in 1969 in exchange for the abducted American ambassador.
