Cabra marcado para morrer (Twenty Years Later)

Brazil 1964/1984, 120 min, English subtitles

In 1964, as Eduardo Coutinho was shooting his feature film “Cabra marcado para morrer” about the murder of the peasant leader João Pedro Teixeira, the military took power in the country. It took 20 years before he was able to interweave the old film footage with new interviews, with the focus on Teixeira’s family. Finally, what emerged was “the most important Brazilian documentary of its time” (John King, Magical Reels), an impressive record of political repression and resistance.
